LAS VEGAS — On Thursday, 5:17 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to investigate reports of a shooting that took place at an apartment complex located in the 6800 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard. Arriving officers located an unresponsive adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds near the pool area. Officers also located a fourteen year old female who had sustained a gunshot wound to the hand.

The female victim was transported to the UMC Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation initiated by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicates the two victims were in the pool area and had an exchange of words with a property security guard, later identified as 19 year old Malik Kendrick.

After exchanging words, detectives believe Kendrick went to a vehicle and retrieved a firearm and changed into a hoodie. Kendrick then returned to the pool area and shot towards the victims.

Kendrick remained on property and was contacted by police. Malik Kendrick was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of Murder with use of a Deadly Weapon and Attempted Murder with use of a Deadly Weapon.
