DENVER, Colorado — Denver Police: District 6 Officer Summer Day and Officer Matthew Peltier responded to a bus station in the 1000 block of 19th Street on a report of a disturbance.

The staff explained that they wanted to the party removed, but the officers quickly realized that the party had a mental disability and was functioning at a level well below his actual age. The party became agitated when he learned that he lost $100 resulting in him not having enough money for his bus ticket or food.

The officers were able to calm everyone down and convince the staff to let the young man stay.

But they didn’t stop there. Officer Day, knowing how hunger can agitate anyone, went to a nearby ATM, withdrew some cash, and gave it to the young man so he could buy something to eat and drink.

This simple act of kindness further helped to quell the disturbance, and helped the young man overcome a very stressful situation.
