TUCSON, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Lukeville Port of Entry arrested a 30-year-old man on Feb. 21 wanted in the state of Washington for “escape from community custody.”
Zeferino Alaniz Balderas was a passenger in vehicle returning from Puerto Penasco, Mexico. When officers asked both occupants for identification, Balderas stated that his identification had been stolen. As a result, officers directed the driver to a secondary inspection area.
During criminal and immigration checks on both occupants, officers learned that a warrant had been issued out of Washington last year for Balderas’ arrest.
After officers confirmed the warrant, they detained Balderas until a deputy from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office arrived to take custody. The driver was released.
