A man was boarding a flight at LAX when airline officials told him his dog had escaped his crate. They told the man they found the dog. A few minutes later they said they actually hadn’t located the pooch. Delta says the dog bit his way out of the crate but the owner says it was damaged from the outside and took a photo to prove it.

In a statement, the airline said, “Delta continues to investigate what happened, but early indications show that procedures were followed, and the dog may have compromised the kennel on its own. We remain in contact with this customer, and we are fully supporting the search for their pet.” But the man says he has called, left voice mails and the airlines is, in fact, not in contact with him.

Delta gave the family a $200 credit for their lost pet.
