DEL RIO, Texas – On Aug. 19, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station arrested a convicted sex offender who was previously removed.

On Aug. 19, Candido Francisco Hernandez-Avila, 29, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was encountered and apprehended by Carrizo Springs Border Patrol agents on a ranch near Carrizo Springs, Texas. Hernandez-Avila was transported to the Carrizo Springs Station for processing.

During processing, agents discovered that Hernandez-Avila had been previously removed from the United States and was a convicted and registered sex offender.

Criminal records checks revealed that on Nov. 17, 2012, the Fort Worth Police Department arrested Hernandez-Avila, for sexual assault of a child. On June 12, 2013, Hernandez-Avila was convicted and was sentenced to three years confinement. On Aug. 11, Hernandez-Avila was removed to Mexico.

“I am proud of our men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol who put their lives on the line every day to keep our country safe,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch. “This arrest goes to show our commitment with keeping our communities safe.”

Hernandez-Avila faces a charge of illegal re-entry of an Aggravated Felon – 8 USC § 1326 – and his prior Order of Removal will be reinstated.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. During FY 2015, which started Oct. 1, 2014, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 11 previously deported sex offenders.
