TBI Special Agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in Williamson County.

The TBI says the incident began around 9:30 a.m, when officers with the Franklin Police Department began pursuing a vehicle that had been reported stolen. After a period of time, the Franklin PD officers ceased their pursuit.

Around 10:40 a.m., Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle near Lewisburg Pike. They initiated a pursuit that continued over the I-65 overpass at Peytonsville Road.

The driver of the vehicle came to a stop on the overpass, got out of the vehicle, and brandished a weapon at the two deputies. One of the deputies fired, striking the driver.

The driver was deceased at the scene.

One of the deputies sustained a leg injury during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
