Active Shooter At Delta State Univ.

Delta State University tweeted Monday afternoon that an active shooter was spotted on campus near Jobe Hall and that the school is on lockdown.

A professor, in his mid-50’s, was shot and killed inside of his officer Monday morning, the Coroner said. The victim was identified as Ethan A. Schmidt, an Assistant Professor of American History.

According to WLBT, Schmidt completed his Ph.D. at the University of Kansas in 2007. Before coming to Delta State, Schmidt taught for six years at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX .

Bolivar Commercial, a Cleveland newspaper, has reported that Fifth Ave. has been closed off, and that there are ambulances on campus.

 

 

 

Local paper Bolivar Commercial posted on Twitter that state troopers are placing shields on campus and that there is a second shooter rumored to be on campus in Broom Hall. The Clarion-Ledger reports that the Cleveland Police Department confirmed one victim, a professor, was taken by ambulance.

One confirmed suspect is still on the loose, and officers of the Washington County Police Department have arrived at the scene.

Delta State has confirmed one fatality after a shooter opened fire on its campus Monday afternoon. The school is currently on lockdown, Delta State tweeted.
