NASHVILLE — Major outages are being reported in Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama and Tennessee, and the major carriers say engineers are working hard to resolve the issues.

The outages are mostly effecting cellular and landline services for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

All carriers involved have posted Twitter and Facebook messages saying they were working to fix the problems.

Over 10,000 people have reported the outage on downdetector.com.

U.S. Cellular  statement via WVLT:

“U.S. Cellular and other wireless providers are currently experiencing a service disruption across the Southeast, including some areas in Tennessee. The carriers use a third-party vendor to transmit traffic from cell sites to wireless devices, and that vendor currently is experiencing a major outage.

The U.S. Cellular engineering team reports that two of that vendor’s routers are down, and that is the cause for the service disruption.”

AT&T and Verizon both tweeted responses saying:

AT&T: “Engineers have pinpointed a hardware-related issue and are working to restore service as quickly as possible.”

Verizon: “Our engineers are working with vendors to resolve connectivity issues in parts of AL, IN, KY, TN. Will update as we know more.”

In Nashville, the Metro Nashville Police Department and the Nashville Fire Department are without Internet service, according to WSMV. The report said 911 was not affected.

WSMV-TV in Nashville, Tennessee, said outages were reported in Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee; Huntsville, Alabama; and Bowling Green, Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky.

AT&T’s corporate communications manager, Cathy Lewandowski, confirmed some customers have been without landline and wireless services. Monday evening AT&T reported that engineers pinpointed a hardware-related issue and were working to restore service as quickly as possible.
