Gunman Reported on Campus of UMass Amherst

Amherst, MA — Police swarmed the campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst on Thursday after reports of a man with a gun.

The school has instructed students and facutly to shelter in place, Tweeting, “Hostile armed person reported in Pierpont Hall. UMPD on scene and perimeter secured. Please shelter in place.” … “Suspect is a white male wearing dark colored shirt and gold chain. Reports of 2nd involved party, white male wearing gray sweatshirt.” … “One or two hostile armed persons are reported in Pierpont Hall. UMPD is on the scene and has secured a perimeter. Shelter in place for now.” … “UMPD is interviewing witnesses & continuing to investigate following reports of armed man in Pierpont. Continue to shelter in place.”

“Determine in advance the exit routes for any building you frequent.  Establish an alternative route in case the nearest exit is blocked or unsafe.

In case of a fire or other emergency that requires all occupants to immediately leave a building or area, evacuation will be signaled by the internal building alarm or by the direction of emergency personnel.”

A second suspect is also reportedly involved.
