The social media network Gab went offline Monday after the company said they were the target of a hack and ransom demand.

The hackers posted messages on several verified accounts, including the one belonging to Breaking911.

The hackers wrote, “Dear Andrew, if you value transparency so much why do you keep lying to your despicable users?

The website has been fully compromised last week. 35M public posts and 3M private posts. 50K emails and 7K passwords. 831 verification documents (that I did not send to DDoSecrets or anyone else).

Gab users, your leaked verification documents (which the ransom was about) are not even worth 8 Bitcoins to them. They do not care about you or their 18,000 pro users. Don’t worry about it  I just make mosaics.

It was so easy to hack you maybe I’m not the first?

PS: I made three mosaics, can you catch them all?”

In response, Gab wrote on Twitter, “We took the site down to investigate a security breach.

Banks are banning us. Hackers are attacking us. Journalists are libeling us. Why?

Real simple: Gab glorifies Jesus Christ and is fighting to protect free speech online for all people. Spiritual warfare.

Gab is an American business run by law-abiding American citizens that can’t get a business checking account, can’t process credit and debit cards online, and can’t access basic online services run by tech monopolies.

Where are our leaders? Where is the GOP?

Now we are being ransomed and threatened by criminal hackers. The media cheers them on and supports their efforts.

This is the United States of America: a totally subverted nation under the occupation of a handful of oligarch tyrants who use their power to destroy dissenters.”
