WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) A wildlife photographer has captured dramatic footage of two grizzly bears locked in an intense battle after one stole food from the other.

Survivalist and expedition leader for the last twenty years, Brad Josephs, 39, recorded the fight at Katmai National Park, Alaska after getting dangerously close to the aggressive animals.

Eventually the weaker of the two animals is forced to surrender to his more powerful rival and he is left hungry as the other bear heads off with a fish for dinner.

Discussing the video, Brad said: ‘Two large male brown bears were fishing for salmon, on a vast tidal flat area of shallow water.

‘Fish were scarce, so when one of the males caught a salmon about thirty feet from our group, the other male came to steal it from him.

‘A fight broke out and the successful hunting bear lost his catch to the ‘mugger bear.’

‘When people are close to these wild bears and such a violent interaction occurs, they usually remain quiet and humble in the moment and can’t believe what they are seeing.

During the summer and autumn months the bears enter a phase called hyperphagia, or excessive eating, which lasts two to four months.

Their calorie intake intensifies in this period, enabling them to gain up to three pounds prior to hibernation.
