LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector, along with the Hebbronville Fire Department, rescued a lost subject near Hebbronville, Texas.
The incident occurred during the early morning of February 5, when agents from the Hebbronville Station received a distress call via Jim Hogg County Sheriff’s Office from a lost individual who dialed 911. The individual advised that she was unable to walk and did not know where she was. Agents retrieved GPS coordinates of her location and responded to provide assistance. Upon arriving to the location, Agents found that the individual had fallen into a dry well and was unable to get out. Due to the depth of the well, Agents determined that further assistance was needed and contacted the Hebbronville Fire Department for assistance. Laredo Sector Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue was activated.
After the rescue and initial medical evaluation, it was determined that the individual suffered a possible broken leg and injuries to her back. Due to the severity of her injuries, a medical flight was requested and she was transported to Corpus Christi, Texas for further medical attention.
The individual, a Ecuadorean Citizen, was illegally in the country and will remain in Border Patrol custody pending medical attention. The Ecuadorean Consulate was notified of the situation.
Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak stated, “I am immensely proud of the lifesaving work done by our agents to quickly locate and rescue this severely injured woman. This incident highlights the life threatening dangers that migrants may face while attempting to illegally enter the U.S., and a reminder why it is safer to stay home and not undertake this dangerous journey.”
