CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station arrested a previously deported felon near the Calexico West Port of Entry Thursday night.

At approximately 10 p.m., agents observed a man running north from the International Border fence. Shortly thereafter, agents stopped the man and determined that he had entered the country illegally. Agents arrested the man and transported him to the Calexico station for processing.

Records checks revealed that the man, a 33-year-old citizen and national of Mexico, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and weapons charges. He was sentenced to nine years in prison in Calif., and later deported in 2012.

“While carrying out our duties as Border Patrol agents, we sometimes encounter dangerous individuals with prior criminal histories attempting to enter the country illegally,” said Acting Special Operations Supervisor Miguel Garcia. “This arrest shows how we strive to ensure the safety and well-being of our community while also enforcing immigration laws.”

The man will be criminally prosecuted for Re-Entry After Removal as a convicted felon.
