Ex-Yankee Karim Garcia Brutally Attacked In Mexico

A former baseball player for the New York Yankees, Karim Garcia, was brutally assaulted in Saltillo, Mexico.

Garcia suffered several broken ribs and a broken nose during the attack which occurred as he made his way home.

The outfielder currently plays for Saraperos de Saltillo, a Mexican League team.

The team confirmed that Garcia suffered broken ribs and would undergo surgery on Monday.

The former major league player thanked fans and friends with two tweets on Sunday night,

‘Thank you all for caring about me,’ Garcia wrote in Spanish. ‘… Your show of support fills me with happiness. In the soul of God, bless you all.’

Garcoa was involved in the majors from 1995-2004, playing for over 5 teams.

He has since continued to play professionally in Japan, Korea and Mexico.

García signed as an amateur free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1992 at just sixteen years old.

After batting .319 with twenty home runs and 91 runs batted in for the Albuquerque Dukes in 1995, he became the youngest player in Major League Baseball when he debuted with the Dodgers that September.

He also received major league calls in 1996 and 1997, but spent most of tenure with the Dodgers as a minor leaguer.
