A woman has been left with serious burns to her head, hands and arms after a toilet exploding due to a build up of methane gas.
The explosion occurred the instant she turned on the light in the farm house toilet and its electrical circuit began to ignite the gas.
Authorities said the farm house toilet, in southern Austria, had become combustible due to the gas build up from a nearby septic tank.
Austria’s Steiermark state police said: ‘When the woman turned on the light there was a sudden explosion, leaving the woman with burn injuries on both arms, hands and her head,’ according to The Local.
Last year, a woman in Barcelona’s gothic quarter had to undergo skin graft operations on both her legs following a toilet explosion.
It too had been caused by methane gas and a lack of ventilation and cleanliness in the toilet cubicle.
According to local radio, the woman sued the owners of the bar for the serious injuries she sustained.
