Pregnant Teen and Boyfriend Killed in Los Angeles Drive-By

Driver shot by gang member, losses control of vehicle and crashes into a home. Two people dead and one injured as a result of apparent gang violence.

LOS ANGELES — On February 7, 2016, around 11 a.m., Hollenbeck officers responded to a radio call of a “shooting” at the intersection of Enchandia Street and Cesar Chavez Boulevard. The driver- 18-year-old Henry Sanchez was struck by gun fire as he waited for a green light along with two passengers at the intersection of Enchandia Street and Cesar Chavez Boulevard. Upon being shot, the victim lost control of his vehicle and collided into a residential home near the intersection of Enchandia Street and Pleasant Avenue.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and transported Sanchez to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The passenger 19-year-old Maria Cordova was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. According to local reports, Cordova was pregnant.

The rear male passenger in the vehicle was not seriously injured. The residents in the home were not injured.

Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identity and arrest of the persons responsible for the murders.
