At least ten people have been attacked in random slashing attacks in recent months.

Police have dismissed this and say the attacks are largely a coincidence.

Most of the attacks involve razors, knives and in once case, a machete.

On Monday, a 71-year-old grandmother was slashed on the cheek as she was on the subway to work.

Commissioner William Bratton said: ‘The reality is we still have crime in New York City. We’ll always have crime in New York City,’ he said.

‘But the reality is also that there is less crime in this city than there has been at any time in the last 25 to 50 years.’

“Each one seems to have its own motivation.”

Metropolitan Transpiration Authority re worked with police on Wednesday  in attempt to respond to the attacks.

His chief of detectives commented on the incidents by saying that the attacks were ‘a little unusual for us.’

The randomness of such a crime can cause panic, but it shouldn’t, authorities have urged.
