Firefighter Beat Up Homeless Man For Taking Too Long To Order Food

Austin Police officers responded to the report an attempted kidnapping.

A firefighter from Brookline has been arrested after police report that he beat up a homeless man for taking too long to order food at a restaurant. Police also said that the 37-year-old old Joseph Ward, of Boston, punched the man in the fact over five times, began to kick him and threw food at him outside of Anna’s Taqueria in Brookline on Sunday night.

The victim was then taken to hospital with a laceration to his eyebrow, WFXT has reported that Ward did not answer the door on Monday night. He is currently charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Town Administrator Mel Kleckner says officials are aware of Ward’s arrest and he’s been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

Police found Ward on Winchester Street, where he told police that he asked the man in front of him in line to hurry up, and once the order was finished, he said the man challenged Ward to a fight. Ward denied using anything other than his hands on the victim, authorities said.

One witness says Ward pushed, punched and kicked the victim before throwing food and a glass bottle at the man while he was on the ground.
