3 Memphis Cops Attacked on Beale Street

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Three Memphis Police Officers were hospitalized after being attacked near Beale Street in Downtown Memphis Sunday.

The first Officer saw a woman being assaulted and stepped in to help the victim. The Officer, who was not in uniform, was immediately assaulted by the suspect. The Officer identified himself and had the suspect sit on a sidewalk.

Two men puled up a short time later and all three suspects kicked and punched the Officer.

The two other men, identified as Phillip Boyd and Christopher Logan also reportedly stole his watch during the assault, estimated to be worth $650.

From WMC Action News: “When two uniformed police officers showed up, Boyd and Logan ran away.

The officers say when they finally caught up to Boyd and Logan, they were elbowed in the face and kicked in the back.

Boyd is charged with robbery, assault, and evading arrest. Logan is charged with robbery and evading arrest.”

he three officers were taken to Regional Medical Center and have since been released.

Beale Street is a street in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee, which runs from the Mississippi River to East Street, a distance of approximately 1.8 miles. It is a significant location in the city’s history, as well as in the history of the blues.
