Forged Plates And An Assault Rifle In Manhattan

NEW YORK — Police Officers in Washington Heights recovered an AK-47 assault rifle and a shotgun during a car stop recently. Sergeant Ortiz along with Police Officers Powell and Coyle of the 33 Precinct’s Anti-Crime unit pulled over a van at the intersection of Broadway and West 174 Street after observing the vehicle had a forged license plate.

As the police officers approached to speak with the driver they noticed a large gun case in plain view. The driver a 45-year-old man indicated that he had firearms and ammunition stored in the case. Further investigation revealed that the firearms were unlicensed. A quantity of marijuana was also seized and the man was placed under arrest for criminal possession of a weapon along with criminal possession of marijuana. An AK-47 assault rifle, a shotgun and numerous rounds of ammunition were recovered.
