GEORGIA — Atlanta Police say a former boxing champion was shot to death during a robbery early Wednesday morning.

O’Neil Bell, 41, was shot along with one other victim while getting off a bus on the Southwest side of the city around midnight.

Investigators said Bell fought back before he was fatally shot. They do not believe the suspects knew who Bell was.

No arrests have been made and police say the investigation is ongoing.

The second victim was shot in the hip and was taken to the hospital.

Cops are now looking for two suspects who fled the scene in a PT Cruiser.

From AJC.com: “Police believe the vehicle was stolen Tuesday in East Point and used in a robbery there on Tuesday night. Police released a video of the vehicle and an image of a person seen by witnesses exiting the vehicle.

Bell moved to Atlanta in 1995 and worked as a driver for UPS before becoming a professional boxer three years later.”

O’Neil Bell was a Jamaican professional boxer who held the unified WBA, WBC, IBF and The Ring magazine cruiserweight titles.
