Former Police Detective Arrested on 9 Felony Counts

CALIF — A former Long Beach police detective was arrested today on charges he assaulted and threatened his estranged wife’s boyfriend and dragged her from the residence.

Toby Benskin has been charged with nine felony counts, including three counts of assault with a firearm, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count each of assault by means like to produce great bodily injury, making criminal threats, first-degree burglary with a person present and false imprisonment by violence.

Benskin allegedly broke into the residence of his estranged wife’s boyfriend on Oct. 27, 2015. He allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill the man before threatening the man’s roommate, who came to see what was happening. Benskin then allegedly forcibly dragged his wife from the residence.

Benskin is being held on $200,000 bail.

If convicted, Benskin faces up to 25 years, eight months in state prison.
