NEW JERSEY — On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, a Camden County jury convicted Ashley Bailey, a former Camden County Metro Police officer, of two counts of Official Misconduct. Bailey was arrested on October 28, 2014 after a long-term narcotics investigation entitled, “Operation Southern District.” At the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Testa presented evidence that Bailey, while still a police officer, accessed police reports of the investigation and shared the information she learned with the targets, one of whom was her late husband, Edwin Ingram. Bailey was also convicted of sharing the contents of an intelligence briefing linking another one of the targets, Donyell Calm, to a shooting that occurred earlier that year. Bailey is facing up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison, 5 to be served without parole, on each of these counts.
Bailey’s co-defendant and brother-in-law, Nathan Ingram, was also convicted by the same jury on 22 counts, the most serious of which is Leading a Narcotics Trafficking Network. Nathan Ingram faces life in prison and must serve 25 years before being eligible for parole.
These arrests and convictions are the result of a multi-jurisdictional investigation that involved the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey State Police, Camden County Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cherry Hill Office, Philadelphia/Camden High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force (HIDTA), Camden County Sheriff’s Department, Cherry Hill Police Department, Evesham Police Department, Gloucester City Police Department, Gloucester Township Police Department, Haddon Township Police Department, Monroe Township Police Department, Pine Hill Police Department, Winslow Police Department and Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
Forty individuals were arrested and police seized over 5 ounces of heroin, cocaine and marijuana, approximately $11,000 in U.S. currency and several weapons as a result of the investigation and searches of the targets’ homes.
Sentencing for both defendants is scheduled for Friday, December 15, 2017 before the Honorable John T. Kelley, J.S.C.
