Four Dead After Flash Floods Hit Southern Germany

At least four people have died after flash floods hit southern Germany.

A firefighter was killed as he attempted to rescue another person in a flooded railway station who also died.

Police also confirmed that a 13-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a train while attempting to seek shelter from the storm under a railway bridge.

Another victim, aged around 60, was found in a flooded underground car park in Weissbach, near Heilbronn.

Around 7,000 firefighters, rescue workers and police officers have responded to over 2,000 incidents related to the storm.

Local media also reported a house was destroyed and others damaged in Braunsbach after a river broke its banks.

On Saturday lightning strikes injured more than 10 people in Germany and France.

A spokesperson said that more rain fell in the space of a few hours than normally falls over several months.

Audi has stopped production at is plant in southwestern Germany because of the severe flooding.

A spokesperson couldn’t confirm how many workers were affected by the weather or when production would resume.
