WATCH LIVE: (Scroll Down For Video) French authorities started to demolish the makeshift migrant camp near Calais known as the Jungle on Monday.

Earlier this year French president Francois Hollande announced plans to close the camp by the end of 2016 and relocate the officially estimated 6,500 migrants.

The Jungle closure plan will see migrants being held at one of more than 160 Welcome and Orientation Centres (CAOs) in regions across France.

They will have to claim asylum in France within a set period of time or face deportation.

The slum’s southern section was dismantled earlier this year but more migrants arrived.

France has called on the UK to allow 500 unaccompanied minors.

An emergency legal bid by several aid groups to delay the camp’s closure was rejected by a court in Lille earlier this month.
