After getting shot in self-defense, Florida road rage suspect arrested

FLORIDA — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged 24-year-old Carlos Echeverria-Pena in connection with a road rage incident that occurred Friday morning in North Port.

Deputies responded to the report of a shooting at the intersection of U.S. 41 and River Road at approximately 7:15 a.m. When they arrived, they located two vehicles, the victim, and Echeverria-Pena, who sustained two gunshot wounds. Investigation revealed Echeverria-Pena approached the victim after a road rage incident and began punching the victim through his window.

The victim retrieved his licensed firearm and fired two shots in self-defense. Echeverria-Pena was transported to the hospital where he received treatment and was later booked into the Sarasota County jail. Detectives charged him with Burglary of a Conveyance with Battery.

He was released Sunday on $15,000 bond.
