MEMPHIS, Tennessee — (MPD) — Charlie shift officers made the scene of a burglary at approximately 3:35pm. As officers were on the scene, they encountered a young man, 11-years old, who lived at this location with his mother. He and his mother had been to Church this evening and when they returned they found that their home had been burglarized.
The thief or thieves stole several of his mom’s items, but they also stole the young man’s Xbox game system and every single game that this 11-year-old owned. The officers were talking with the child when they realized that he didn’t have a whole lot. The officers knew that this game system (while it was handed down from someone else) was everything to him.
The officers asked the little guy if he was going ask Santa for a new one. His reply to them, “My mom works long hours and several jobs…she uses that money to just pay the bills; I am not gonna even ask.” His response touched the officers and they knew they had to help. The officers got together after the call and decided to make this Christmas season a little brighter for this young man.
Officers Jerry Graves and Officer Antonio Martin took a few moments in between calls to stop by Game Stop that is located at Union and Belvedere to purchase a new Xbox gaming system, along with three (3) games. While at the store, the clerk learned of what the officers were planning and he split the bill amongst the two officers. Noticing their kindness, Game Stop management also donated an additional controller for the young man.
These two officers wanted this to be special for this family and to ensure one less worry for this single mother during the Christmas holiday. Officers returned to the residence with the new Xbox. They asked the young man to take a look at an Xbox they found to see if it was his….he looked in the bag and told the officers, “No, sir….mine was older.” They told him they had not located his Xbox but the one they had was his now….He was so overwhelmed that it brought tears to not only him, but his mother and officers as well.
