ST. LOUIS — A woman and her 6-year-old granddaughter were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday at a hotel in Eureka, Missouri.

The child victim and the 50-year-old woman were found at the Holiday Inn at 4901 Six Flags Road. They were both found clothed and in the bed of the hotel room. Each had died of a gunshot wound, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The shooter, Colleen Church, had custody of the girl. No one reported hearing gunfire at the hotel, which is located across the street from the Six Flags amusement park.

From the Post-Dispatch: “The Churches were supposed to check out of the hotel room by 11 a.m. Tuesday. When they hadn’t left by 11:30 a.m., a member of the hotel staff knocked on the door. The employee got no answer, used a pass key to get into the room and discovered the bodies..

Police found a handgun in the room. The hotel room opens to the outside, and Church’s car was found in the parking lot.”

Police did not find a suicide note. A motive is not known.

The investigation is ongoing.
