BOSTON — At about 10:20 AM on Saturday, April 30, 2016, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 2 Folsom Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that two delivery men for an appliance store were scheduled to bring a new refrigerator to a residence in the above area.
When the delivery men attempted to deliver the fridge, the two male residents became upset when it was discovered that the new appliance was not the same size as the old refrigerator.
One of the male residents then emerged from a room with what was described to officers as an “AK-47 style assault rifle,” pointed and racked the firearm at the delivery men, and yelled at them to get out of the house.
The delivery men fled the premise as officers arrived. The officers ordered the two suspects out of the house, then conducted a protective sweep of the residence.
No firearm was found initially; however, the suspect who had allegedly wielded the rifle, 48-year-old John Mahoney of Roxbury, was arrested for Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
The residence was frozen pending a search warrant.
At approximately 9:25 PM that same day, officers executed a search warrant for the residence and recovered the following:
One unloaded rifle (unknown make and model)
One box containing 17 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition
One large frame revolver (unknown make and model)
One small frame revolver (unknown make and model)
One box containing 50 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition
Mahoney was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
