SEATTLE — Police arrested a 24-year-old man in North Seattle this morning after he broke into a home and attacked a stranger with a pickaxe.

Around 3:30 a.m. December 23, the resident of a home in the 13500 block of 16th Ave NE was asleep in bed when the suspect walked into his room and hit him in the stomach with a pickaxe.

The victim grabbed the axe, bit the suspect, dragged him out of the room and shouted for his son to call 911.

The victim and his son then pinned the suspect to the ground until police arrived.

The victim sustained several small puncture wounds during the incident and was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the suspect, who does not know the victim, entered the home through an unlocked door.

Officers booked the 24-year-old into the King County Jail and are investigating.
