INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives continue to investigate after a child was fatally shot on the city’s north side.
On Monday, June 26, 2017, just before 10:00 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 7100 block of Warrior Trail reference a person shot. When officers arrived they were informed that a 9-year-old child had been shot and had been transported to a nearby hospital in a vehicle. The child died when he arrived at the hospital.
Detectives were informed that the child and his friend were playing with a firearm when it accidentally discharged striking the child in the face.
The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency processed the crime scene for possible forensic evidence.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final changing decision.
