Joint Base Andrews On Lockdown Due To Active Shooter Report

Joint Base Andrews in Maryland has been put on lockdown after a report of an active shooter.

Officials placed Joint Base Andrews on lockdown just after 9.a.m. on Thursday.

All personnel have been instructed to shelter in place.

Joint Base Andrews Tweeted:  ‘JBA is currently on lockdown due to a report of an active shooter. All personnel are directed to shelter in place. More info as it comes.’

The base sent a further update: ‘The incident is ongoing at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility. First responders are on-scene now.’

The base has released a statement saying;  ‘We are reacting to a report of a real world active shooter. The call occurred during an exercise. Because the report came in as a real active shooter we have to respond accordingly.’

According to NBC Washington, Joint Base Andrews planned an active shooter drill for 9 a.m.. At the same time, an active shooter was reported.

Andrews Field is the airfield portion of Joint Base Andrews which is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force. In 2009, Andrews Air Force Base merged with Naval Air Facility Washington to form Joint Base Andrews.
