Grand Rapids, MI — A Grand Rapids Police Officer was shot at this morning while responding to an incident involving a firearm that took place in and around the vicinity of Planet Fitness at 3681 28th St. SE.
The event occurred at 1:18 am.
Officers were responding to 9-1-1 calls of a man who was seen brandishing a gun inside the fitness center.
The suspect shot at a police sergeant as he was attempting to make contact with the suspect.
Seconds later, the 35 year old suspect was located at a parking lot just north of the Center Point Mall where he was arrested at gunpoint.
No shots were fired by police personnel. A handgun was recovered following the suspect’s arrest.
No injuries were reported.
Officials say the suspect is employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Notification has been sent to the FBI Agency in Detroit. The incident remains under investigation.
