Florida woman tries to ignite explosive device during traffic stop

JACKSONVILLE, FL — On Tuesday, November 7, 2017 a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer stopped a suspicious vehicle in the Grove Park neighborhood around 11:15 p.m.

Contact was made with the driver, suspect Charlaya Moore. The suspect was asked to exit her vehicle, but the suspect refused. The suspect began to reach for an unknown item under the driver’s seat. The officer gave multiple verbal commands to stop reaching under the seat but the suspect refused. Officers attempted to pull the victim out of the vehicle. At that time, the suspect pulled out an explosive device and attempted to ignite the device. An officer made entry into the passenger’s side of the vehicle and was able to get the explosive device away from the suspect. The officers on scene were then able to get the suspect handcuffed.

Suspect Moore told police she was in the neighborhood because she was travelling to her boss’s house. A search of the suspect’s vehicle revealed multiple explosive devices and multiple disguises, such as wigs, and glasses.

The suspect was charged with Possession of a Destructive Device, Aggravated Assault on Police, and Resisting Police with Violence.
