2 Arrested For Attempted Murder of AL. Sheriff’s Deputy

GREENE COUNTY, Alabama — Shirley Diane Hawkins and Eric Washington are facing attempted murder charges after opening fire on a Deputy’s patrol SUV.

The suspects shot at the Deputy during a confrontation on Greene County Rd 80. It’s unclear what led up to the shooting.

Greene County Sheriff’s deputy Tommy Johnson was injured when a bullet went through glass on his patrol SUV. Johnson’s eye was cut and he is being treated.

The shooting happened in the town of Boligee. The suspects fled but were captured later at a gas station.

The two suspects in the case are now being held in the Greene County Jail.

There are seven bullet holes in the windshield of the Deputy’s of SUV from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will handle charges against Hawkins and Washington.
