Suspect killed in police shooting near Colorado Springs

SECURITY, Colo. — EPSO PRESS RELEASE: On Saturday, October 22, 2016, at approximately 11:10 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call regarding a shooting in the 4900 block of Brant Road in the Security area.

When Deputies arrived on scene they found a female with gunshot wounds, who was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Her identity will be released once the autopsy has been completed.

The suspects in this case are Demetrius Mac Moore, DOB: 01/03/76 and Daniel Lee Moore, DOB:10/05/84. The Moore brothers are considered armed and dangerous. A BOLO was issued and the investigation revealed the suspects had separated. Leads directed law enforcement from the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to a location on Chelton Road and another location in the downtown area of Platte and Union.

On Sunday, October 23, 2016, at approximately 3:46AM, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department and deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office made contact with one of the EPSO Homicide suspects in the area of Boulder Street and Union Blvd. The suspect armed with a handgun immediately engaged and fired at least one round at officers/deputies. One deputy sustained minor injuries. Both officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department and deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office returned fire striking the suspect.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department Paramedics were already on scene with our tactical unit and immediately provided advanced life support to the suspect. Advanced life support efforts were unsuccessful. Identification of the suspect will be released by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

The Colorado Springs Police Departments Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and initiated a death investigation. This is an active investigation. Detectives are conducting interviews and processing the crime scene. At this time there is no danger to the public.
