Kansas state band said it will pay a $5,000 fine after its marching band shaped itself into the rival Jayhawk mascot and what appeared to be a large penis during a halftime show.
The school said on Tuesday that band director Frank Tracz will miss the November 28 game against Kansas and that university officials must now pre-approve future halftime shows.
The university said it decided to pay the self-imposed fine after the Big 12 conference warned of potential sportsmanship and ethical conduct violations.
Tracz insisted last week that the troupe had been trained to depict a Jayhawk in battle with a spaceship for the Star Trek-themed half-time against South Dakota during the team’s home opener.
However, the ship bore an uncanny resemblance to male genitalia – and as it ‘attacked’, it looked like it was entering the Jayhawk’s mouth.
