OWENSBORO, Ky. – Around 9:15 this morning, Kentucky State Police Post 16 was notified by Owensboro Police of a police action shooting in the limits of Owensboro. OPD authorities requested our agency investigate the incident related to the shooting.

Police say that Owensboro Police Officer Jennifer Haynes, 31 of Owensboro attempted to stop a vehicle suspected in crimes in Owensboro and Reo Indiana area. The vehicle attempted to flee from Officer Haynes but crashed into a Jeep Cherokee in the 2000 block of Old Henderson Road. The suspect, identified as Edward A. Warriner, 46 of Hawesville, KY then fled the stolen crashed car on foot and ran behind ACME Heating and Air building. OPD Officer Haynes exited her patrol vehicle and gave chase.

Warriner was able to get into an ACME company van and drove the van at Officer Haynes in an attempt to flee out of the gate. Haynes shot twice at Warriner in attempts to stop him from running over her. She was able to move out of his way as he drove out of the loading area. It is believed the rounds discharged from Officer Haynes service weapon struck the ACME vehicle but did not strike Warriner. No one else was injured including Officer Haynes.

Warriner was apprehended a short time later by Owensboro Police Officers.

Kentucky State Police troopers charged Warriner with one count of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer and he currently being held at the Owensboro Police Department.
