Large Fire Breaks Out Near Dubai’s New Year’s Fireworks Display

A large fire broke out in a luxurious five star hotel near Dubai’s massive New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

It is not immediately clear what caused the fire, which ran up at least 20 stories of the building near the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper.

Burning debris rained down from the building as firetrucks raced to the scene.

14 injuries were reported, the victims are in moderate condition. 1 person died from a heart attack during the chaos, Dubai media reported.

As the fire was raging, the city went on with the fireworks display at the stroke of midnight as the skyscraper burned nearby.

The Address Downtown Dubai Hotel, is a 5-star hotel is 302 meters tall and is located not far from the New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

Burning debris rained down from the building as firetrucks raced to the scene.

The show was to begin at the Burj Khalifa, which organizers said was fitted with 400,000 LED lights. They said 1.6 tons of fireworks would be used in the display.

One of the tallest, most ornate skyscrapers in a city known for them is currently the scene of a raging fire after New Year’s Eve fireworks reportedly had ignited a hotel fire in Dubai.

Completed in 2008 with a massive tower, the hotel is the sixth tallest building in Dubai and Top 50 in the world.
