Police have shot and killed a man who stormed a restaurant in Ohio wielding a machete and began randomly attacking people as they ate at their dinner tables.

Four people sustained injuries during the attack at Nazareth restaurant and deli on Thursday.

The victims were taken to a local hospital, police have said they are expected to make a full recovery.

Columbus police Sergeant Rich Weiner said: ‘There was no rhyme or reason as to who he was going after.’

CCTV footage shows the man walking into the restaurant, engaging in a conversation with an employee and then leaving.

He then reurned about a half hour alter and approached a couple who were sitting inside and started to attack them.

Employees and customers attempted to stop the man.

Weiner went on to say: ‘Some of the patrons there started throwing chairs at him just trying to get him out of there,’

The man then ran out and led police on a short chase.

‘At that point he had a machete and another knife in his hand and he lunged across the hood at the officers.’

‘Right now there’s nothing that leads us to believe that this is anything but a random attack,’ added Weiner.

A police officer then shot and killed the man.
