A man has now been charged with mischief after a baby was hit by spray from a beer can thrown at a Blue Jays game.

The sale of beer cans at the Rogers Center in Toronto, Canada, is being reviewed after they were thrown onto the field during a game on Wednesday.

Among those sprayed with alcohol was a baby, and police said Albert Grummitt, 33, of Ontario, was arrested the same evening.

According to Toronto police, the baby was in the front row with her mother when the drink was thrown in their direction, the Toronto Star reports.

The woman appeared to be crying when television cameras filmed them after it happened.

Toronto Police tweeted: ‘The baby sprayed with some beer. Police have made an arrest and charges are expected.’

Constable David Hopkinson told the Toronto Star that the baby was not hit by the can and is ‘OK’.

The man arrested has been released but is due to appear in court on November 24.

Mario Coutinho, the Blue Jays’ vice-president of stadium operations and security, told the Toronto Star that the sale of beer cans would be included in an overall review of security.

He added: ‘I think you look back to 81 home games this season and we haven’t had those situations before.

‘I think… it was more of an emotional reaction, not something that was a result of the sale of alcohol at the stadium.’
