Baltimore — Wilfredo Abrego was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 45 years in prison after being found guilty earlier this year of rape, sexual abuse of a minor, and third degree sex offense. Agrego, 28, was prosecuted for impregnating a 13-year-old girl whom he claimed to love.

Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) Seth Giller prosecuted the case.

In 2015, police were called to a residence in the 3700 block of Eastern Avenue in the Highlandtown neighborhood for a reported rape. The mother of a 13-year-old girl told police that her daughter was discovered to be five weeks pregnant after a visit to a physician. The alleged father was Abrego, who was 26 years old at the time.

According to ASA Giller, Abrego was renting a room in a house where the girl and her mother were living.

Based on statements provided by the victim’s mother and other witnesses, authorities began looking for Abrego. He was eventually apprehended and prosecuted after his DNA was found to match that of the 13-year-old’s aborted child.

“ASA Giller is to be commended for securing the maximum penalty,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I am grateful that this predator will no longer have the ability to prey upon the vulnerability of any other child again. Justice has been served.”
