Man Opens Fire at Church, Shoots at Responding Officers

EAGAR, Arizona — One person is dead and two others were wounded after an Officer-involved shooting in Eagar. Police from multiple agencys responded to a call of a shooting at the Church of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center.

The call came in around 3:45 p.m. Saturday. A woman told dispatchers a man in a pick-up truck had fired a gun at her as he drove by the center. The woman was hit in the shoulder.

From Fox10Phoenix: “Officers from Eagar and Springerville police departments, ACSO, Department of Public Safety, Game and Fish and US Forest Service Law Enforcement responded. When they arrived at the scene, the suspect fired at the responding officers, hitting one from the Eagar Police Department. ”

The suspect fled and entered a home about five blocks away. The suspect fired multiple rounds at the responding officers from the home. ACSO deputies and Eagar police officers returned fire, hitting the suspect. He was taken into custody and transported to White Mountain Regional Medical Center where died from his wounds.

“The Eagar Police Officer that was struck in the initial shooting is reported to be in good condition, he was treated and released from White Mountain Regional Medical Center. A woman was also struck in the shoulder by the suspect’s gunfire in the initial shooting. She was transported to Summit Regional Medical Center in ShowLow , AZ. No information is available at this time on her condition. The case is still under investigation,” stated ACSO Sgt. Richard Guinn.

No names have been released in this case.
