Man Who Stole Car on New Years Eve With Child Inside Asked Cops For Directions

MISSOURI — A Kansas City man, 37, faces charges in connection with stealing on New Years Eve day a car in Kansas City that had a 1-year-old child inside.

Kenneth A. Alexander faces the Class A felony of Child Kidnappinig and Stealing a Motor Vehicle.

According to court records, Belton police made contact with Alexander not long after it was reported in Kansas City that a child was in the back of a vehicle that that was taken at gunpoint in the 3500 block of Prospect.

KMBC reported: According to court records, a woman told police she went into a beauty supply store in the 3500 block of Prospect Avenue while four children waited in the car.

She told police that she was alerted by one of the children that a man was trying to take the car. All of the children, except the toddler were able to get out of the car before the vehicle was stolen.

A short time later, Belton police said Alexander pulled up to one of its officers and asked for directions back to Kansas City after allegedly admitting to stealing the car.

The child was found unharmed in the back seat.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $75,000.
