Chase Dellwo, aged 26, was confronted by a bear a large grizzly bear which then bit his head, he lived to tell his tale on how he miraculously survived by putting his arm down the bears throat.

Dellwo was hunting elk with his brother in Choteau, Montana, on Saturday when he came face-to-face with the grizzly.

The bear, which was just three feet away, then pounced and knocked him off his feet before latching onto his head. The animal let go, roared, bit his leg and then tossed him into the air.

That’s when Dellwo remembered an article his grandmother had given him several years earlier.

‘He let go, but he was still on top of me roaring the loudest roar I have ever heard,’ he told The Great Falls Tribune. ‘I remembered an article that my grandmother gave me a long time ago that said large animals have bad gag reflexes. So I shoved my right arm down his throat.’

The bear left with Dellwo only sustaining a swollen eye and deep puncture wounds in his leg.

Talking about the incident afterwards, he said: ‘I want everyone to know that it wasn’t the bear’s fault. He was as scared as I was.’
