MANHUNT OVER: Escaped Killer David Sweat Has Been Caught – UPDATE

NEW YORK — Escaped convict David Sweat has been caught and is reportedly wounded.. Bringing the massive manhunt to an end.

Sweat was apprehended in Constable, New York, state police say.

NBC News reports he was shot near the Canadian border. His condition is unknown.

More than 1,200 officers on the scene of the manhunt have completed their goal after 23-days of searching.

The news comes more than three weeks after Sweat broke free from Clinton Correctional Facility, and two days after his partner was killed by law enforcement.

Richard Matt, 49, the man who escaped with Sweat, 35, on June 6, was shot dead in Malone, which is about 40 miles away from the prison and 20 miles away from the Canadian border.

MORE: Sunday’s search efforts continue along State Route 30 between County Route 41 in the Town of Malone and County Route 26 in the Town of Duane.

On Sunday, residents will also notice a large police presence north and south of the village of Malone as teams continue to search for Sweat.

Tactical, K9 and aviation units from the involved agencies will continue searches within the perimeter in effort to locate the suspect.

On Sunday, there are approximately 1,300 federal, state and local law enforcement members involved in the search area. These agencies include Forest Rangers and Conservation Officers from the Department of Environmental Conservation, officers from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Plattsburgh Police, Vermont State Police, and the Clinton, Franklin and Washington County Sheriff’s Departments. All available assets are being deployed around the clock.
