Three people were killed Thursday when a helicopter and a plane collided in mid-air near a Frederick airport, Maryland State Police officials confirm.
Frederick County fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the site of two downed aircrafts at about 3:40 p.m. near Hughes Ford Road and Monocacy Boulevard, which is close to Frederick Municipal Airport., a department spokesman confirmed.
Capt. Kevin Fox said rescue personnel were still tending to the scene as of 5 p.m..
He said the initial call went out as a “mid-air collision” between a plane and a helicopter. Frederick County police confirmed that the plane collided with a helicopter in mid-air. The extent of injuries was unknown.
