The owner of an education consulting firm and the mayor of Pico Rivera have been charged with improperly reimbursing family and friends for donating money to a candidate running for a seat on the Montebello school board.
Luis Diaz Rojas and Gustavo Vidal Camacho were each charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit improper identification of a campaign contributor and one misdemeanor count of making a campaign contribution under a false name or improper identification of a campaign contributor.
The case was filed for warrant on April 21.
Rojas, owner of the DelTerra Group, and Camacho are accused of engaging in a scheme to launder contributions to Joanna Flores, a board member of the Montebello Unified School District.
Between December 2015 and April 2016, donors allegedly enlisted by the two defendants signed checks to the Flores campaign and received reimbursements for their contributions.
If convicted as charged, both defendants face up to three years in county jail.
The Public Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.
