John McAfee has offered to unlock an iPhone belonging to one of the San Bernardino shooters for free in just three weeks, but only if the FBI cancels its order for a backdoor on iOS.

McAfee said: “I work with a team of the best hackers on the planet,”

“I will, free of charge, decrypt the information on the San Bernardino phone, with my team.”

He added that he wanted to unlock the device because he didn’t want Apple to implement a back door, which is a method used by security services to access data on encrypted devices.

“This is a black day and the beginning of the end of the US as a world power,” McAfee said.

“The iPhone is notoriously difficult to hack compared to other devices,” he said.

Tim Cook said that introducing a back door would make all iPhones vulnerable to hacking by criminals.

McAfee concluded by saying: ‘If you accept my offer, then you will not need to ask Apple to place a back door in its product, which will be the beginning of the end of America.’
