CALIFORNIA — During the late night hours of Sunday, May 8, 2016, City of Gonzales Police Detectives were summoned to St. Elizabeth Hospital regarding a cruelty of a juvenile case.

Investigators learned that prior to detectives arrival, a mother identified as Tyler Dashea Dauzat, 21, of 42553 Hwy 42, Prairieville, arrived at St. Elizabeth Hospital with her two year-old biological child who was exhibiting extreme erratic behavior. Dauzat reported to medical personnel attending to the child that she was unaware of what had caused this behavior.

The attending emergency room physician discovered after a blood screen was conducted on the child, that there was a presence of a significant quantity of methamphetamine. The medical personnel concluded the methamphetamine was ingested after examining the child. Dauzat was uncooperative with attending medical personnel and Department of Children and Family Services workers as far as giving an explanation of how the child came in contact with the methamphetamine. The child was stabilized and transferred to the Our Lady Of the Lake Pediatric Unit.

Dauzat ultimately admitted to City of Gonzales Police Department Investigators that she was in possession of a powder form of crystal meth in her purse, and her child, just prior to exhibiting the erratic behavior, had been left alone in a room at a local Gonzales hotel with her purse.

Tyler Dashea Dauzat has been arrested and charged by Gonzales Investigators with the following: one count of negligent injuring, one count of cruelty to juveniles, one count of illegal use of CDS in the presence of juvenile and one count of improper supervision of a minor.

Dauzat has been booked into the Ascension Parish Prison in Donaldsonville and is awaiting bond consideration.

The Department of Children and Family Services is currently involved regarding the custody of both the two year-old child and another biological child of Dauzat’s who is four years-old.
